-Visit fomentation room
Group 4 : Seung Jae, Seung Whan, Ji Ye, Ha young, Hwo Jin
Ji Ye: Today we are going to Jjim-jil-bang(찜질방). Jjim-jil-bang is the place where you can make your body warm and get rest. So many people enjoy Jjim-jil-bang after work or on the weekend. Also it is the place where you can make better relationship with people around you because people usually go to Jjim-jil-bang with their familes or friends. When people visit Jjim-jil-bang, they stay there more than 2 hours. While they are in there, they talk each other. So it’s easy to become closer with your people.
Jjim-jil-bang is one of Korea’s cultures. In Korea, a lot of people love to go to Jjim-jil-bang. Some people go to Jjim-jil-bang even once a week. And now, it’s our time to go to Jjim-jil-bang. And I’ll tell you how we enjoy Jjim-jil-bang. Let’s go to meet my friend.
Seung Whan : Here is entrance of Jjim-jil-bang near by Sadang(사당) station.
Purpose of going to Jjim-jil-bang is that if you stay fire sweat bathroom with hot temperature air, then you will sweat very very much. So you will feel fresh.
From now on, let's enjoy the Jjim-jil-bang. After you pay money, you can get a cloth and key. By using the key, you can get your shoes in your locker. After change your cloth, put your cloth in your locker.
Seung Jae : This room is ‘불한증막’ which means fire sweating bathroom, and let’s enter it. Many Koreans use this room to sweat. As you see right after we entered the room, suddenly we start sweating. Hey Seung Whan, how do you feel?
Seung Whan : I can’t stand it anymore!!
Seung Jae : Oh my god! He’s gone.
Like his response, some people don’t understand why people doing this, however many people like it. One of famous effect of fire sweating bathroom is make blood circulation well. Like this fire sweating bathroom have many benefits. But, this room is too much hot. May be I should go out.
Ji Ye: There is room for cooling down. Let’s go inside with me.
Here is ice room. Here is ice room where you can enjoy coolness.
If you like cool better than hot, you probably like this room.
Oh look at this is ice. You can touch ice or enjoy coolness like me. Snow oh, Snowing. (Crazy) If you enter with your boy or girl friend, you can make snowball like this. And throw it each other.
Also we can compete with each other for the endurance just for fun in the ice room. Have a fun~
Hyo Jin: Let’s go to the hot salt room with us. Go! Go! Go! Move~ Move !
Ji Ye: Wait! This is notice. If you are weak or old people or pregnant or you drink alcohol, you cannot enter this room.
Hyo Jin: Here is salt and there are salt blocks and salt lumps. You don’t eat them. Salt makes your skin soft.
Ha Young : If you feel tired, you can sleep here. First thing to do is to find out where mats and pillows are. If you find them, then bring them, and find a place to sleep.
Of course you should not sleep in front of door or passage, because you should not block the way. Lay mats and pillow on the floor. Now everything is done. And sleep!
Sometimes, there's designated place to sleep like here. If you want to quiet place to sleep, I recommend.
Ha Young : In Jjim-jil-bang, there's a special food you must eat. It is egg. Look at here. The color is little bit special. I'll buy 3 eggs, and it's only 2000 won.
Here is an egg, and I will show you the color of an egg. The color is brown. It's different from normal one. And I will eat it. Put your salt on egg. I will eat it. It tastes good.
Hyo Jin: What you must do in Korean Jjim-jil-bang is to make ‘Yangmuri(양머리)’.
'Yangmuri‘ means sheep head. It's name is derived from its shape.
In 2005, 'My name is KIm samsun', very famous Korean TV drama, brought it into vogue.
This is what I call ‘Yangmuri’. From now on, I let you know how to make it.
At First, place the towel. We should spread it on the flat ground. And divided it into three parts, then fold it. And then roll up its end part like this. Repeat with the other side.
And now, It is completed! It is so easy for you to copy my action. Let's make Yangmuritogether and enjoy Jjim-jil-bang!
Seung Whan : Actually, after finish warming your body, your body will wet because of sweat. So you should take a bath. But we cannot show you process of taking a bath. Because we should take off our clothes. Sorry.
Seung Jae: At the end of Jjim-jil-bang, We should return our cloth and key.
This is end of our Video Project ‘Visiting Jjim-jil-bang’ which means fomentation room. We had fun time visiting here and we did many things like went fire sweating bathroom or ice room. Not only we sometimes playing here fomentation room, but also many Korean playing here too.
